Part 1 - A Tutorial On How To Design Swimwear Like a Pro

Sharing information that I've found helpful and valuable with others who demonstrate a desire to grow and achieve greatness is another way that I show my love for life.

In this short tutorial, I walk you throught the easiest way to drape stretchy fabric into a design.

For this project, you'll need access to:

  1. A pin-able dress form (or pin-able mannequin for clothing design),
  2. Designers draping tape (that sticks onto dress form) and,
  3. Scissors for cutting the tape (never use your fabric snips for anything other than fabric!).

Below the embedded video, we've linked the products we currently use, but please note that these are merely suggestions, and not sponsorships. As we find new products we love, that are intended for crafting and design, we will update accordingly.

Need a dress form? We use a Royal Form, however, there are many on the market that may work best for you. The important thing is to choose one that is pin-able. Hint: Craigslist is a great place to find a used one! Search words you may use to better assist you include “dress form”, “mannequin” “draping mannequin” and “soft mannequins”

Designer tape: I use this one (please note that it is not my favorite one to use, as I find the adhesive weak). I’m still searching for a better product, preferably one with a raised texture, and stronger adhesive, but for now, this one will do.

Scissors: Any sharp pair! I assign scissors to specific task, by labeling them with tape:

ei. “fabric only”, “paper only”, “hair”, etc,…

I truly hope this helps inspire you, and that you feel encouraged to share any comments or tips with us below! We read everything <3 Happy designing!
